The parish registers of St John the Baptist church at Beeston began in 1563, and the first entry was the birth of a son to Nicholas Strey, a yeoman farmer from Greasley, who had been granted the manor of Beeston around 1560.

Rolling/Chambers Family

George Rolling
b abt 1819 (1851 census pg 3) in Moorgreen, though maybe as late as 1823, d 09 Jun 1903. Son of Charles Rolling, Warphand (?). Unable to confirm, but I think George may have been the son of CHARLES ROLLING (B 1781 in Greasley) and CHRISTAIN (b abt 1789) who lived at 11 Eastwood Rd in 1851.

Occ in 1843 - Warphand (?) living in Kimberley.
One servant, Emily Chambers aged 12 in the 1851 census
Occ in 1881- Farmer of 13 Acres. Resident, Moorgreen.

Married Laviniah Chambers 3 Dec 1843 in Greaseley Parish Church (BMD index 4th qtr MXD 321327. Laviniah was the daughter of Joseph Chambers (coal dealer) and Sarah Chambers and was born abt 1826 in Kimberley, d 30 Dec 1917. Occupation of Laviniah - Duck Maker (?).
Laviniah is spelt Laviniah, Levina, Lavina or Savannah in the variious census and was born in 1823, 1826 or 1827 according to the census. Her gravestone records her death at age 95 in 1903 which would give a birth year of 1823 rather than 1826. However she was a minor when she married in 1843 and George was of full age so 1826 is a more likely date of birth than 1823 and she may have died aged 91 rather than aged 95. She appears to have a twin, Matilda, as both were aged 15 on the 1841 census, plus sibling Elinor (aged 3 in 1841).

There is a story associated with Gordon Rolling or his family. The Rolling family sold a plot to the church on the understanding that a path to the village would be kept as a right of way. It may have been in Brinsley as the family owned cottages there.
